The third of four elements in our not-so-secret strategy to make western North Carolina the Sustainability Capital has been announced in the Asheville Citizen-Times. www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=200770719119
The first piece was Sustainable Now’s deep-content website www.sustainablenow.us/index.shtml . Second was the Green Radio Bistro show www.sustainablenow.us/green%20radio%20bistro/ which has enjoyed great success in its pilot season. Expected to be available online by late August. More on our second season in a coming post. Now the Green Video Network is up and running with the dream team of green video production.
The one remaining piece is a recurring series of outreach concerts, which we hope to get underway by September. “It’s gonna take a lotta love,” a lotta good work and a lot more than that to turn this ship around! Stay tuned, friends.

There’s certainly a whole lotta “green” goin on in western North Carolina. For me the question is, how much of it is marketing and how much of it is for real? And at the end of it all, who’s really to say? One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right? What may be obvious and even long overdue to some of us may be a quantum leap for others. If each step contributes in some small way, then it is part of the solution … right?
That might have been true as recently as a few years ago, but those days are gone. One small step is useful if it is the catalyst to another larger step, soon to follow, and so on. Time is of the essence now!
To help kick things into high gear, look for the July rollout of the Green Video Network … an Asheville based video production company and internet portal with bonafide green credentials and an international award winning team of video production professionals. An important element if we really are going to make western North Carolina the Sustainability Capital!

Still digging out from all the activity generated by the beautifully written article Rebecca Bowe wrote in the Earth Day edition of Mountain Xpress … www.mountainx.com/news/2007/041807green/ .
Be sure to look it over, then you might want to take a quick look at the guest editorial I wrote in the Asheville Citizen-Times NINE YEARS AGO … www.sustainablenow.us/ais/column.shtml . Hard to believe we’re moving so slowly, to be honest!
There’s a new Business section on the Sustainable Now website that gets right to the bottom line about the businesses we’ve been able to locate that are actively working to provide products, services and programs to help bring about a sustainable future in western North Carolina … www.sustainablenow.us/business/
More later.

Doing battle with a truly worthy flu bug right now and will make my first post by March 30. In the meantime, I notice that the website administrators have put my blog under the topic of “Economy.” I’m in stitches over that and will have more on it later. Until then … beg, borrow, steal or perhaps even buy a copy of the classic 1975 eco-fiction novel “Ecotopia” by Ernest Callenbach. If you’ve alread read it … read it again and pass it along to another local. I’ll pick things up from there later.
Happy envisioning!
